Mary J. Blige has dodged a very bitter public divorce from Martin “Kendu” Isaacs.
The queen of hip-hop soul was supposed to appear in court Monday, March 5 for the divorce proceedings with her estranged husband Martin “Kendu” Isaacs, but they avoided the public drama by settling beforehand.
According to The Blast, the Oscar-nominated singer and actress settled her divorce in a private agreement a few days before they were supposed to face off in court . While they reached a private settlement, we do know from previous court rulings that Isaacs was receiving $30,000 a month in spousal support from the songstress. However, he was requesting more to the tune of $129,319 per month. Did they meet in the middle or did she have to settle with what she was offering?
The “No More Drama” singer filed for divorce in 2016 after 12 years of marriage when rumors of an affair with her protege, Starshell surfaced. Since then, the separation was tumultuous with Blige’s former manager claiming an emotional breakdown and a financial crisis that required more coin from his ex-wife and client.
What kind of deal did the former couple reach that satisfied both parties? We guess we’ll never know since secrecy around the settlement may be part of the deal.
